NAWBO'S MISSION

Mission Statement

NAWBO Orlando's mission is to be the organization of choice for women in Central Florida through education, certification, philanthropy and social interaction.

NAWBO is an organization that works to:

  • STRENGTHEN the wealth-creating capacity of our members and promote economic development.
  • CREATE innovative and effective changes in the business culture.
  • BUILD strategic alliances, coalitions and affiliations.
  • TRANSFORM public policy and influence opinion.

We do this by offering members a forum to:

Get involved in the local community and learn more about it by:

  • Gaining firsthand knowledge through small-group presentations.
  • Touring places where business leaders gather.
  • Obtaining word-of-mouth knowledge from other business owners.

Gain access to high-level people in the community including:

  • Business owners.
  • Government officials.
  • Media representatives.
  • Leaders of major corporations.
  • Public speakers.

Increase exposure for themselves and their businesses through:

  • One-on-one meetings.
  • Media opportunities.
  • Speaking opportunities.
  • Tradeshow opportunities.

Continue the training an entrepreneur no longer gets from being a corporate employee, such as:

  • Developing leadership skills.
  • Sharpening technical skills.
  • Working with diverse cultures.
  • Dealing with difficult people.
  • Cross-training in other departments.
  • Creating processes and corporate structure.
  • Negotiating with customers and contractors.
  • Supervising employees.
  • Learning from mentors.

Try out new things in a nurturing environment, including:

  • Creating a budget.
  • Planning an event.
  • Writing proposals.
  • Dealing with the media.
  • Approaching corporate sponsors or partners.
  • Expressing political views.

Gain exposure outside the community by:

  • Attending national events where NAWBO members interact with other entrepreneurs as well as corporate and political leaders.
  • Being represented politically through NAWBO's political action committee and an organizational alliance with Women Impacting Public Policy.
  • Participating in a NAWBO speakers bureau.
  • Being listed on NAWBO's national website and in its printed directory.
